FF14 Dawntrail Director Apologizes for Early Access Issues
Hot Fix and Maintenance Likely to Occur This Week
In a recently published blog post on the official website, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida expressed his gratitude to players and assured them that the development team is actively investigating and addressing the various issues encountered during the early access launch of the game's highly anticipated expansion, Dawntrail.
Players have reported several significant issues, including transition freezes on Xbox, broken animations across all platforms, and problems with several character ultimate abilities.
"We are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter, which we have prioritized to ensure a swift resolution. However, rectifying this issue requires the deployment of a patch to update the client," Yoshida stated in the blog post. "This process involves rigorous checks by our QA team, among other procedures, which means it may take several days to address."
The unresponsiveness of the game's Xbox version when transitioning between areas and issues with ultimate abilities and animations were attributed to a phenomenon known as "memory fragmentation," an issue that occurs within the operating system which could eventually lead to the degradation of system performance. These issues were classified as high priority and Yoshida confirmed that the development server is being used to investigate and systematically address these problems.
"The likelihood of encountering memory fragmentation is reduced when playing on Worlds with relatively low populations due to the lower chances of encountering large numbers of characters on screen at the same time," Yoshida detailed in the blog post. "Until we have resolved the issue, we kindly suggest you consider playing on either the Dynamis, Shadow, or Oceania data centers."
"We are considering the release of a hot fix, which is likely to occur sometime this week, which would be accompanied by a brief maintenance period," the blog continued.
Yoshida concluded his post with a heartfelt apology: "I would like to extend my apologies once again for the occurrence of these issues. Rest assured, we are committed to addressing issues such as these that occur after the release of an expansion and will continue to promptly correct any urgent issues that may arise."
As noted in Game8's review of FF14 Dawntrail, the game's earliest Alliance Raids, specifically Syrcus Tower and Labyrinth of the Ancients, are currently bugged. These bugs make one of the bosses nearly impossible to defeat before it starts overwhelming the party. While a fix is expected soon, this issue poses quite the frustration to players since Alliance Raids are a significant source of experience points for leveling up.
