For its 25th anniversary, Fallout released an article on the official Fallout website under Bethesda filled with several announcements. One of which contains a retrospective video above talks about the development of the Amazon Original adaptation of Fallout.

The article states as follows: "Our developer retrospective series on the Fallout franchise continues! We’ve got a special treat in store as members of Bethesda Game Studios share their excitement for the upcoming Amazon Original adaptation of Fallout. Learn more about what it means to bring Fallout to televisions worldwide in our video."

Todd Howard, the executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios, mentioned in the video that for 10 or so years, movie producers would pitch the idea of turning Fallout into a film, to which he all turned down because "it wasn’t the right fit". He said he’s always wanted Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of the acclaimed HBO series titled Westworld, to bring the game to the small screen. Lucky for Howard, he found out that Nolan’s a big fan of the game upon reaching out, and that he would be happy to do it.

While we don’t have much information on the show’s other details, we can expect the show to feel like an extension of the game, sharing the same unique aesthetics and designs of the Fallout games. In the retrospective video, Istvan Pely, Bethesda Art Director, stated that "I’ve actually been blown away by how much they’ve stuck with our original visions and designs on the visual side of our world building in the games, directly translating that to the screen."

This news may not be new to some people, given that Bethesda and Amazon Prime Video released the same clip last year on their official Youtube channels. However, something that’s definitely fresh is the official release date of the series. Amazon Prime Video released a short video on X, formerly Twitter, of the iconic Pip-Boy booting up in true Fallout fashion, to eventually reveal the series’ official release date. The tweet is captioned with: "04.12.24. #Fallout"

Fallout fans have so much to look forward to. In addition to the live-action series we’re getting, Fallout 4, one of the most highly regarded games in the franchise, is coming to the next-gen gaming scene. According to the article, it will come as a free update available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows. This will include performance mode features for high frame rates, quality features for 4K resolution gameplay, and bug fixes. There will also be bonus Creation Club content, which, if you didn’t know, is a collection of all-new content for Fallout 4 (and Skyrim) that features new items, abilities, and gameplay. Fallout 4 is coming to the next generation of devices in 2023.
