Developers Share Details on Properties

Fable’s revival from Playground Games will let players explore a fully open world, where every building can be entered and even purchased, a feature developers felt was a must-have to carry over from the earlier games.
"You can buy that house, you can live in it," said Playground Games’ general manager, Ralph Fulton, in a recent interview with GamesRadar+. "That was one of those kinds of requirements that we took from the original games, something that people will really want to do."
While giving an overview of the game, the developers made it clear that from the most humble of abodes to the largest of establishments, players have the choice to manage, buy, live in, or even evict residents from those spaces.

In previous Fable games, property management was an option to focus on as a serious business within the game, since it was an extensive and intricate system that fans enjoyed exploiting to amass wealth.
Players could effectively monopolize the housing market by setting rent prices and controlling local residency. While it is currently unconfirmed if the Fable reboot will keep Fable III’s tedious aspect of requiring routine repairs and maintenance on infrastructure, other core management aspects are expected to be intact.
Community Will Wait and See

Reactions among fans have been largely curious, with many expressing anticipation about the open-world vision and the promise of in-depth role-playing. One thread on Reddit saw players celebrating the return of interactive world features like property ownership, with some thinking the revival was "too good to be true."
Other players discussed broader hopes and concerns following the full gameplay reveal at Xbox Developer Direct. Though many praised the game’s aesthetic and core design, some fans questioned whether Playground Games’s racing pedigree can deliver on Fable’s legacy.
Fable is scheduled to launch in Autumn 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, marking the franchise’s first major new entry in over a decade. To stay up-to-date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
