Epic Games Users Spend $950 Million in 2023
Epic Games has unveiled its 2023 Year in Review, showcasing notable trends and metrics for its PC Store. According to the report, PC users spent a staggering $950 million on the platform, marking a significant 16% increase from the previous year. However, third-party PC game sales experienced a decline of 13%, amounting to $310 million.
The top-performing titles on the store include Genshin Impact, Rocket League, Dead Island 2, GTA 5, and Fortnite. The report highlights a continued expansion in the store's user base, with a notable 17% growth. As of now, the Epic Games Store boasts over 270 million PC users, representing an impressive increase of "40M from 2022."
Alongside the growth in its user base, the Epic Games Store witnessed a substantial expansion of its catalog in 2023. Publishers and developers introduced more than 1,300 new PC titles to the store, boosting the total number of offerings to over 2,900. This increase represents an 88% surge in available games for the audience since 2022.
Despite the influx of new games, the Epic Games Store reduced its offering of free games last year to 86, down from 99 in 2022. These games, valued at over $2,000 in total, were collectively claimed 586 million times, representing a decrease from nearly 700 million claims the previous year.
Epic’s Plans for 2024
Epic Games has outlined ambitious plans to enhance its store, including the introduction of a "wholly new Download Manager" and improvements to the offline mode and friend list, aimed at making interactions more meaningful for users.
Additionally, the company intends to introduce a "Dynamic Bundle" feature, allowing players to capitalize on bundled content even if they already possess some items included, thereby enabling them to reduce their overall spending.
Moreover, Epic Games is gearing up to launch an iOS version of the store in Europe later this year, expanding its reach to mobile users in the region.
On the developer front, Epic Games is gearing up to introduce "Subscription Support," a feature that will enable developers and publishers with their own subscription services to bring and "integrate them into the Epic Games Store."
This move will not only provide added convenience for developers but also offer users the opportunity to earn rewards through "subscriptions purchased on the Epic Games Store."
