DRAGON QUEST VII: Reimagined Demo Announced
Carry Over Save Progress To Full Game
DRAGON QUEST VII: Reimagined (DQ7R) will release a free demo, allowing players to carry over their progress to the full game upon launch. As announced on DRAGON QUEST’s official Twitter (X) on January 6, DQ7R’s demo will be available starting January 7, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
Players can experience the prologue sequence of the game in Estard Island, where the Hero and Prince Kiefer discover the Shrine of Mysteries. Those who play the demo will receive the exclusive "Day Off Dress" costume for Maribel, which can be used once the game officially releases.
The demo announcement also came with the DQ7R’s opening movie, showcasing the adventures that the Hero will have. It previewed short snippets of both gameplay and cinematic scenarios, highlighting the unique hand-crafted diorama visuals that the game will feature.
DRAGON QUEST 40th Anniversary Logo Revealed
Aside from the upcoming release of DQ7R, DRAGON QUEST is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. In a post on DRAGON QUEST’s Twitter (X) on January 2, the developers unveiled the official anniversary logo, featuring the game’s constant Slime monster.
The DRAGON QUEST series began with the release of Dragon Quest 1 in Japan in May 1986 for the Famicom. Since then, the classic adventure RPG has produced eleven mainline titles, with the most recent one being Dragon Quest XI in 2017.

The series features various spin-offs that explore different genres, ranging from the turn-based monster-taming game Dragon Quest Monsters to the action-oriented Dragon Quest Builders. Additionally, developer Square Enix recently focused on "HD-2D" remakes of several mainline titles to modernize the classic entries.
These games include Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition in 2019, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake in 2024, and Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake in 2025. With the 40th anniversary of the series coming this year, fans expect the announcement of Dragon Quest XII, considering it has been over eight years since the last mainline Dragon Quest title.

Although Square Enix has yet to reveal anything regarding the eventual sequel, the developers urged the Dragon Quest community to "look forward to various announcements in celebration of the anniversary." In the meantime, fans can experience the adventures of Dragon Quest VII once more with its upcoming reimagined version, with updated visuals and a more streamlined experience.
