Cyberpunk 2 'Progressing Well,' But Too Early for Next Phase, Says CEO

Cyberpunk 2077 V Riding A Motorcycle

Cyberpunk 2 is progressing well, but it is still too early to move to its next phase, says CDPR CEO. Read on to learn more about the game’s development updates and the studios’ plans to expand the team.

Cyberpunk 2 Development Updates

Still In Pre-Production

Cyberpunk 2 is progressing well, but it is still too early to move to the next phase, says CD Projekt Red Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski. During the company’s Q3 2025 Earnings Call on November 26, executives from CD Projekt Red (CDPR) shared updates on the current projects the studio is working on.

One of the highlights of the call was the progress on the highly anticipated sequel to the sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2. In May 2025, CDPR announced that the game had progressed to the next development phase and entered pre-production.

Following the success of Cyberpunk 2077 reaching over 35 million copies sold, Nowakowski gave an update on its sequel’s development and said, "We are happy with the progress Cyberpunk 2 team has made so far, but it’s for sure too early to talk about entering any next stage or phase of this project. We will for sure make a proper update and statement when that time comes."

Expanding The Team

Aside from the actual game production, Nowakowski also mentioned updates regarding the structure of their development team. The Cyberpunk 2 team consisted of studio veterans who worked on previous CDPR projects such as Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Since its inception, the team has expanded, adding developers who were involved with several AAA titles, including GTA, God of War, World of Warcraft, and The Last of Us. Their Boston-based team consists of over 80 members, with 90% holding senior-level positions.

After establishing a strong leadership team, CDPR will now focus on hiring mid-level and entry-level positions, aiming to double its member count as development on Cyberpunk 2 progresses.

"Establishing the Boston-based Cyberpunk 2 team enabled us to carry on with the development of two separate big AAA games at the same time. Despite introducing some geographical and operational complexity, it brought in a wealth of multi-layered experience, skills, and backgrounds. We strongly believe that this investment will pay off in the future, bringing the next Cyberpunk experience to a new level," Nowakowski said.

Despite the scarcity of information on Cyberpunk 2’s development, this new update reiterates to fans that production for the sequel is fully underway. With an expanded world and a new city to explore, Cyberpunk 2 looks to surpass its predecessor in terms of quality and content.
