Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Continued Success
There Will Be Another Game For Sure
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s overwhelming success changed the course of developer Sandfall Interactive, which opened up more opportunities for the French-based studio, including the huge possibility of a new game. During an interview with GamesIndustry.biz on May 27, Sandfall Interactive COO and Producer François Meurisse revealed what’s next after the Belle Époque turn-based RPG.
"There will be another video game, for sure," said Meurisse. Although it’s too early to know what it could be, the team is excited thinking about it. He stated, "I can't wait to dig more into the ideas we already have for the next game."
Meurisse added that the team has gained substantial experience and new skills during this whole project. He elaborated, "Many of them were junior when we started. We learned to work together. So I can't wait to get to the next project, because we'll start from a more efficient position than when we started the company five years ago. And that [comes] with higher expectations as well, so it will be challenging. But I can say that we have – and Guillaume in particular has – great ideas for the next game."
It remains unclear whether this could be a direct sequel to Expedition 33 or a brand-new IP from the studio. But before that, fans are still wondering if Expedition 33 could have a DLC, as earlier this month, Lead Writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen gave a positive response on a possible expansion for the game.
3.3 Million Copies Sold in 33 Days
Meanwhile, Expedition 33 continues to reach milestones and this time, achieves one that is uniquely dedicated to them. In a Twitter (X) post on May 27, Sandfall Interactive announced that Expedition 33 has sold 3.3 million copies in 33 days.
The post reads, "Seriously. As of today. We couldn’t make that up. Another entry on the long list of surreal moments that your support has made real. Thank you ALL." This comes as no surprise given the game’s consistent success, but the numbers make the whole thing feel more magical.
