Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Coming This Year
Official Accounts Tease Upcoming Black Ops Direct
Activision has confirmed that Black Ops 6 is this year’s Call of Duty game, following official Twitter (X) posts on both Xbox and Call of Duty accounts, and in-print advertisements for the game in USA Today’s and the New York Post’s Thursday papers.
USA Today newspaper ads showed the game’s logo emblazoned along with the game’s full title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and a link to the teaser. The New York Times version instead features a defaced Mt. Rushmore with the quote "The Truth Lies" on the bottom, which is also the name of the teaser website. The Twitter (X) posts feature the unredacted versions of the previously posted teaser, revealing the full title of the upcoming game.
Then, the game’s teaser website features an interactive TV which lets you scroll through six different "channel teasers." As of writing, only Channels 1, 2, 3, and 6 are functional. Rest assured, Channels 4 and 5 will come out in time, as the Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct premieres in two weeks.
This news comes to light after the announcement last month on the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th, which is the first of its kind to include games from Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios. Microsoft had acquired Activision-Blizzard last year, adding games such as Call of Duty and Gears of War to their overall game repertoire.
Black Ops 6 Might Come To Game Pass
An exclusive Wall Street Journal article also hints about the newest Black Ops title being a day one release on the Xbox Game Pass, marking it as the very first Call of Duty game to be included in the service on launch day. The article states, "Microsoft plans a major shakeup of its videogame sale strategy by releasing the coming installment of Call of Duty to its subscription service instead of the longtime, lucrative approach of only selling it a la carte."
With this shift to subscription gaming, Microsoft hopes to reach a larger audience who may otherwise not be able to try the game. Xbox Game Pass subscriptions start for as low as $11 USD for access to a large library of games, and with a game such as Call of Duty showcasing among the choices, it’s a deal that’s hard to pass up.
