Gearbox Confirms Major Updates, DLC, and Endgame Plans

Borderlands 4 has revealed its 2026 roadmap, offering players a first look at upcoming updates, paid expansions, and new endgame challenges. Gearbox is focused on refining core systems, boosting performance and stability, and expanding the endgame based on community feedback.
The first major update has already gone live on January 29, 2026, introducing Photo Mode, balance refinements, and performance improvements. Gearbox notes that every major content drop this year will come with a free update for all players, while smaller tweaks and weekly activity refreshes will continue through Minor Updates.
Borderlands 4 is the latest entry in Gearbox Software’s looter-shooter franchise, known for its chaotic combat, over-the-top weapons, and colorful cast of Vault Hunters. Since its launch, the game has built a strong player base, with ongoing updates and events keeping the world fresh and challenging.
Early 2026 Brings Bounty Pack 2 and Story Pack 1

Aside from frequent updates, more paid content is also coming soon as the first paid DLC, Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon, is set to arrive sometime this February. It adds a new mission with high-end rewards, including Pearlescent gear, the rarest tier yet. Players also receive a themed Vault Card featuring 24 cosmetics and four gear pieces that can be earned through gameplay.
Following Bounty Pack 2, Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned will introduce a new region with multiple story and side missions, featuring a darker, cosmic horror–inspired narrative centered on Ellie, coming in March.

The pack also adds a new Vault Hunter, C4SH, a former casino dealer bot, equipped with three unique Action Skills and branching skill trees with passives, Augments, and Capstone abilities like all currently available Vault Hunters.
Both expansions will include new gear and cosmetics. Access depends on which edition of the game players own: the Super Deluxe Edition includes all Bounty and Story Packs, the Deluxe Edition includes the Bounty Pack Bundle (covering Legend of the Stone Demon), and each DLC will also be available for separate purchase.
What's Next for Borderlands 4 in 2026

Looking ahead to Q2 2026, Gearbox plans to release Takedown, described as the most challenging endgame mission yet. Players will fight through a gauntlet-style area filled with waves of enemies and new boss encounters. Completing the mode will reward players with some of the best loot available in the game so far.
Beyond paid expansions, Gearbox is continuing work on cross-platform saves, shared progression between characters, a level cap increase, and more free events. A new Raid Boss is also planned for the year, though the studio has not shared additional details.
While exact release windows for these features haven’t been announced, the roadmap makes clear that 2026 will bring major updates, new content, and fresh endgame challenges for all players. For more information about the game, check out our article below!
