⚫︎ Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is shaping up to be a bold new chapter in the beloved Bloodstained saga—and in a recent interview, producer Koji Igarashi (IGA) and creative director Shutaro Iida (SHUTARO) offered the first deep dive into its development and design philosophy.
The game, quietly in development since 2021, is a prequel set in a new era with new protagonists and gameplay mechanics. While it maintains the gothic style and action-RPG roots fans expect, Igarashi and Shutaro describe it as a “transformative return” to the IGAvania genre, promising innovations in storytelling and structure.

⚫︎ A new entry in the Bloodstained series, titled Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, was revealed during the latest State of Play and is set to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. The game is now available to wishlist.
Directed by Shutaro and produced by series creator Koji Igarashi, this 2.5D side-scrolling action RPG returns to the gothic world of Ritual of the Night. Set in the 16th century, the story follows Leonard, a Black Wolves apprentice, and Alexander, the last knight of the White Stags, as they battle through the Ethereal Castle to confront Demon Lord Elias and his guardians, the Sanguinaries.
