Battlefield 6 Open Beta Weekend Brings in Over 500k Concurrent Players

Image

Battlefield 6 just had a massively successful Open Beta run. Read on to learn more about what people are saying about the latest Battlefield title.

Battlefield 6 Achieves Series Milestone with a Successful Open Beta

Boasting an All-Time Peak of Over 500,000 Concurrent Players

Battlefield 6 celebrated its first open beta with a post from the official Battlefield Comm Twitter (X) account proudly announcing that this is the series’ "biggest Open Beta ever." The post included a heads-up for players waiting to get in as the launch rapidly approached peak times, and a sweet "thank you" to players for their "continued excitement." Soon after, Battlefield 6 reached an all-time peak of 521,079 players, rising to become 18th in the list of Most Played Games on Steam.

Players have left glowing reviews of their gameplay experience all over social media, praising it for intense campaigns that encourage tactical gameplay, leading to more thrilling wins. Battlefield 6 is said to be a vast improvement from its last release, Battlefield 2042--also known as the worst game in the entire franchise for its many game-breaking exclusions of classic Battlefield mechanics.

Majority of Battlefield veterans have also claimed that Battlefield 6 is a "return to form," and we at Game8 agree. If you want to know more about our thoughts on the Open Beta, check out our review in the link below!

A Potential Call of Duty Rival?

However, every Open Beta has its ups and downs, and it's only natural for problems to pop up. Since the launch of the open beta, the SPEAR anti-cheat team reported that Javelin, EAs anticheat solution, recorded around 330,000 attempts to cheat and "tamper with anti-cheat controls. The anti-cheat team also thanked players who reported about 104,000 "instances of potential cheaters."

Mike Ybarra, former CEO of Blizzard Entertainment (Overwatch, Diablo III), made a post on Twitter (X) praising DICE for successfully blocking hundreds of thousands of cheating attempts with Javelin. He acknowledged that cheating is difficult to fix, but he applauded them for their diligence in attending to the problem, which seems to be more than he can say for another FPS that has enjoyed even greater success than the Battlefield franchise as a whole.

Before Battlefield 6 officially opened its doors to the public with the Open Beta Launch, Ybarra made the following declaration on Twitter(X): "Battlefield will boot stomp CoD this year. But the real win here is CoD won’t be lazy anymore, and we’ll all get better FPS games for it." He claimed that Call of Duty is a "mess" and has "gone downhill." When prompted to elaborate, Ybarra cited issues that have plagued Call of Duty such as rampant cheating, a "slow and bulky UI," and more.

People are hopeful that Battlefield 6 will prove to be a worthy competitor to the game that has dominated the FPS market for over a decade. Like Ybarra, they believe that Call of Duty has grown complacent due to a lack of competition. Some have claimed on social media that Battlefield has come out with a title that FPS fans have been hungry for, regardless of whether or not they mainly play Call of Duty.

Perhaps there is some data to support these expectations; Battlefield 6 has taken over Call of Duty’s all-time peak of 491,670 concurrent players, an impressive feat for a series that many players have lost faith in. However, there are still a ways to go before the game’s full release, and with the second Open Beta round taking place on August 14-17, there will be room for more errors, more complications, but just as many opportunities for Battlefield 6 to prove whether it does have the potential to compete with Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
