Battlefield 6 100-Man Battle Royale Playtest Coming to Battlefield Labs

Battlefield 6 pc trailer cutscene

Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode testing is coming this week. Read on to learn more about Battlefield’s take on the battle royale mode and what the developers wish to discover in this testing period.

Battlefield’s Twist on Battle Royale

Battlefield 6 will introduce and test its Battle Royale mode in its upcoming Battlefield Labs sometime this week. In a news article posted on Battlefield 6’s official website on September 11, developer EA shared more information about the game’s take on the popular shooting genre.

The game’s battle royale mode was initially teased during Battlefield 6’s Live Multiplayer Reveal event on July 31, which was met with mixed reactions from fans. While some players feared that this might take away from the core elements of the Battlefield series, others welcomed this new addition as an alternative to current battle royale games.

In Battlefield 6’s latest post, the developers assured fans that this new mode will retain Battlefield’s identity. They stated, "We see a great opportunity to infuse the core Battlefield pillars of class-based squadplay, tactical destruction, and vehicle combat into the Battle Royale genre to create a high-stakes and adrenaline pumping gameplay experience."

The new Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6 is designed for 100 players, organized into 25 four-player squads. The experience focuses on squadplay, with communication tools like pings and voice chat, and includes multiple ways to get back into the fight, such as revives and redeployment options.

Battlefield 6’s battle royale map is especially built for this mode, featuring various tactical points of interest, and players can utilize both common and armored vehicles to maneuver around the field. A key feature is tactical destruction, which enables players to demolish walls and buildings, creating new paths or gaining an advantage over enemies.

Beyond infusing core Battlefield elements in this mode, the developers will also introduce what they dubbed "The Deadliest Ring in BR (Battle Royale)," which instantly kills players upon contact. This feature will directly affect the pacing of the match and will create spontaneous showdowns.

They elaborated, "With urgent warnings as the fire approaches, soldiers will be pushed into more intense firefights as the game space continues to shrink. There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it - if you get caught in it, you are done."

Effectiveness of Classes in Battle Royale Mode

While Battlefield 6’s open class system is still a point of contention within the community (and the devs are working on it!), the battle royale mode will have fixed classes that cannot be changed once the match starts. This is also highlighted in its class-based loot, which enhances the proficiency of certain weapon types that are dedicated to specific classes.

As players gain more XP by accomplishing objectives and defeating enemies, they will level up their class to unlock new traits and gain tactical advantages. The developers explained, "One example would be the Assault class being faster in equipping an armor plate which makes them harder to defeat in their next (or current) firefight."

EA noted that their goal for the upcoming Battlefield Labs will be to assess the effectiveness of each class’s builds and how their unique traits affect the flow of the game. Once the testing is complete, the developers will share their findings and insights from the players’ feedback.

There is no specific date yet announced for the next Battlefield Labs, which was mentioned to be coming this week. Players can get more information by joining Battlefield’s official Discord server and by signing up for Battlefield Labs on the game’s official website.

Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games, and EA App. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
