Avowed Will Run at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X, Surpassing Initial Performance Expectations

Avowed game director Carrie Patel revealed in a podcast that the game will now be capable of running up to 60 fps on the Xbox Series X. Read on to find out more about Avowed and its upcoming release!

Avowed Can Run Up To 60 FPS On Xbox Series X

Will Still Be A Little Janky At Launch

Image

As revealed in a rapid-fire interview session with Ben Hanson on YouTube media outlet MinnMax, Avowed game director Carrie Patel shared that players can now get up to 60 FPS for the game on the Xbox Series X after the team previously said that it would only reach until 30 FPS, believing in the past that there was necessarily no need to make it a smooth 60 FPS

Avowed art director Matt Hansen stated previously that it would only reach up to 30 FPS because it’s a first-person, single-player game. "You don’t necessarily need that 60 frames. And that allows us to get a lot juicier with VFX and lighting and all this other stuff… The game's running pretty smooth for how visually dense it is, and that was always our goal" he said to the Iron Lords Podcast during Gamescom 2024.

However, it seems that the team has taken in quite a few changes with the release build. For starters, according to Patel in the MinnMax interview, there was always a plan on supporting a third-person camera. Presumably to accommodate third-person-POV players, 60 FPS was then integrated into the game as a whole.

DLCs Might Come Sooner Or Later

When asked if there will be DLC for the game, Patel responded with a "Maybe," signifying that there may be more content coming up post-release. She also answered a resounding no to the question if there will be micro-transactions, so there’s a chance that these DLCs will be completely free. Post-launch content will seem to be worked on continuously after Avowed’s launch as well.

Patel stated that this game’s development was the toughest in her entire video game career. She joined the team at a most crucial time, stating that there was a "creative pivot" at the beginning, requiring "lots of changes midstream, keeping the game moving forward, continuing to make content." Despite the changes and delays and hardships Obsidian faced during development, she’s superbly proud of her and her team’s work and is hoping that the public would love the game as much as she does. "99 on Metacritic! Universal acclaim! Everybody loves this game! That’s what we’re going for," she concluded.

Avowed is the newest fantasy action-RPG title from Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds developer Obsidian Entertainment, set to release on February 18th for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Those who wish to have advanced access to the title on February 13th can either upgrade to the Premium version of Avowed using Game Pass, or buy the Premium Version outright for $90.
