Avowed Overview
Avowed is an upcoming role-playing game being developed by Obsidian Entertainment and being published by Xbox Game Studio. The game was announced back in 2020, and has seen one delay where it was pushed from a Fall 2024 launch to February 18, 2025. Xbox cites the delay not due to optimizations issues, but due to late 2024 having multiple big titles releasing in season for the publisher.
Avowed takse place within the world of Eora, the same world from Obsidian Entertainment’s "Pillars of Eternity" titles. The game will follow players as the Envoy of Aedyr, tasked by the emperor to seek out a way to fight back against a deadly plague, known as the Dream Scourge, spreading across the Living Lands. The Envoy must venture across the island teeming with peculiar locations to uncovering secrets and defend themselves against the hostile monster that inhabit them. The Envoy must make use of both weapons on one hand and spells on the other to prove victorious in any skirmish they might face in their journey.
However, as the only being capable of wielding magical powers in the Living Lands, fear rises among the commonfolk of the Envoy’s powers. Amidst the fears, a helpful few warriors, mercenaries, and wizards will see through the terror and discover strength, and in turn will lend their aid and become companions in the Envoy's quest.
Avowed will be released on February 18, 2024 for the PC and the Xbox Series X|S, and will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass at launch. Purchasing the Premium Edition will allow a 5-day advanced access to the game starting on February 13, 2025.

Avowed Gameplay
Avowed is a single-player first-person RPG, where they will have access to various weapons and spells. Said weapons can be equipped on one hand, and a selection of spells can be simultaneously cast with the other. Swapping between weapons and spells will be seamless in order to give players a wide degree of freedom to mix, match, and combo attacks, defenses, and support actions to their liking.
Aside from combat, players will be adventuring from location to location, settlement to settlement, accomplishing quests, gathering information, and growing stronger in order to combat the ever-spreading Dream Scourge. In their journey, they will be joined by various companions that seek to provide their services for the cause, or for their own aspirations.
Avowed Companions
Giatta
Giatta comes from an Animancer background, where her parents were of scientists researching the science of souls. However, they perished during a lab accident, rendering Giatta an orphan. She is determined to carry on their work and seeks to continue their research to be heralded as a great among her field.
She wields magical spells during combat with the help of the Phantasmal focus, the very invention that caused her family's deaths.
Kai
Kai was a former soldier from the Rauataian Navy where he served in the campaign that took place in the Deadfire Archipelago, where he ultimately deserted. Seeking change and a new purpose in life as a mercenary, he journeyed through the Living Lands, and eventually found himself in in Thirdborn, then subsequently in Paradis.
Kai wield physical weapons such as swords and guns in combat, able to give lead charges or bear the brunt of enemy attacks.
Marius
Marius is a mountan dwarf raised as a hunter from Solace, a dangerous region in Galawain's Tusks. Living in the harsh environment, he learned to survive with his wits and skills amongst the wilderness, rising to the top of their keep's elite hunters. However, looking for a bigger purpose, he left his home in search to find a new one, a life full of thrills with the constant dangers among the wild.
Marius primarily wields a bow and arrow to provide cover fire from a distance or divert enemies' attention.
Yatzli
Yatzli is a scholarly hearth orlan wizard who studies the ancient Godless and their old artifacts. Though she lives in Fior with her loving partner, she is constantly in ruins across the Living Lands to conduct more research pertaining to the Godless.
Yatzli carries with her a grimore from which she can cast all sorts of spells to give support to the party, or rain down offensive magic against enemies.

The reveal trailer shows off a war-forsaken world, where from it, empires were forged, heroes championed into monarchs, and blood was shed. A long time has passed, and the main character now faces an incoming booming threat armed with just a sword imbued with runes and their magical prowess.
