Respawn Entertainment is dipping its toes in the Star Wars universe yet again with reports of a new Mandalorian game in the works cropping up. According to a new report from Insider Gaming, a yet-unnamed Star Wars Mandalorian game is currently in early development with nearly a year or two left before its release. Online multiplayer and other such features are currently up in the air, although a plethora of gameplay and story details have already been revealed.
The game is reportedly featuring linear gameplay across several planets and maps, instead of being an open-world title. According to Insider Gaming’s sources, the game will also focus on “mobility” and “style”, utilizing the Mandalorian’s jetpack to perform special maneuvers like horizontal dashing, vertical jumping, and boost sliding.
Sources also described the game to be “very fast-paced” and as such will reward players who play accordingly. To that end, a specific gameplay mechanic where the player’s health regenerates as they accumulate successive kills will be implemented.
In addition to great mobility and fast-paced action, the player will also be granted access to a Mandalorian’s great arsenal of weaponry, including wrist rockets, grappling hooks, a visor for tagging enemies and bounties, and so much more.
It’s currently unclear whether the Mandalorian in the game would be Din Djarin from the popular Disney+ series, Bobba Fett from mainstream Star Wars lore, or another Mandalorian entirely, although sources claim that it’s most likely the latter.
Keeping the Star Wars IP’s considerable lore in mind, a specific period within the setting’s expansive history has been pinpointed, spanning the era when the “Galactic Empire is dominating across the galaxy," during which players take on the role of a bounty hunter “to capture bounties dead or alive for cash rewards.”
