Elder Scrolls 6 Won't Be Available On PlayStation

Document Leak Reveals Platform Exclusivity

The gaming community has been eagerly awaiting news about the exclusivity status of The Elder Scrolls 6 ever since Microsoft's monumental $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda in 2021. Xbox Head Phil Spencer has been evasive when questioned about the game's availability on other platforms, but a Microsoft court document from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial related to the Activision Blizzard buyout appears to have answered the question for us.

Axios reporter Stephen Totilo made this information public when he shared details from the unsealed document on Twitter. The document includes a list of information on announced Bethesda games which include the games’ intended platforms.

As you can see under the “The Elder Scrolls 6” column, the highly anticipated title will exclusively launch on Xbox and PC, with PS5 missing from the list. While the release date remains to be confirmed (TBC), the document suggests that the game is expected 2026 or later. As of now, Microsoft has not officially confirmed the launch platforms or provided a specific release window for the game.

Microsoft on Exclusivity

According to Phil Spencer in a 2021 interview with GQ, “In order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls 6.” The decision to withhold Elder Scrolls 6 from PlayStation follows the trend of recent Bethesda game launches being released exclusively on Xbox and PC, like Redfall and Starfield.

A Long Wait for Fans

Last month, Pete Hines, the Bethesda head of publishing, confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in its “early development” stages. He warned against fans hastily expecting any substantial updates or release information in the near future.

The exclusivity status of The Elder Scrolls 6 continues to be a hot topic in the gaming world, leaving fans with eager anticipation and a multitude of questions as they await further details about this highly anticipated title.
