The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, is an annual video game trade show where major gaming companies and publishers showcase their latest games, hardware, and technology to media, industry professionals, and gamers.

E3 has been an important event for the gaming industry for several decades, and its cancellation was a significant disappointment for many in the gaming community.

Major Publishers Not Attending

E3 2023 was scheduled to return to an in-person format in Los Angeles after being held online in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, major gaming companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft announced they would skip the event. This was a significant blow to the organizers of E3, as these companies are typically major exhibitors at the show and draw a large amount of attention from attendees.

The decision by these companies to pull out of E3 2023 was likely due to various factors, including concerns about the ongoing pandemic and the ability to safely hold an in-person event. Additionally, some companies may have found more value in hosting their digital events, which have become increasingly popular in recent years to reach a global audience without the logistical challenges and costs of attending a physical trade show.

Ultimately, combining these factors led to the cancellation of E3 2023. This disappointed many in the gaming industry, as E3 has long been a critical event for showcasing the latest and greatest in gaming technology and content. However, the show could return in the future, either in a modified form or as an entirely virtual event, depending on the needs and preferences of gaming companies and attendees.

Digital Events Hosted By Major Publishers

Microsoft will have its own Xbox Game Showcase on June 11, followed by a Starfield Showcase. Ubisoft will have its own Ubisoft Forward on June 12. Other Publishers have yet to announce when to hold their own showcase, but they would likely use their social media websites.
