In a recent interview with BBC, Director Naoki Hamaguchi mentioned that players can expect at least 50 hours of gameplay time from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s main story alone. The second game in the Final Fantasy VII remakes will feature a significant amount of side content and exploration available in the game's world. In fact, the director stated that there is even more side content than main story content, which may or may not be a good thing.

Furthermore, completionists can expect to spend well over 100 hours to complete all aspects of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

In comparison, Final Fantasy VII Remake, the first game, clocks in at about 33 hours for the main story and 86 hours for completionists.

A Seamless Open World and Bigger Battle System

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will feature a significant open-world component. However, the game's open world won't follow a "go anywhere you want, do anything you want" style from the start, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Instead, the game begins with a fairly broad and wide area for players to explore, set with limitations.

The open world will gradually expand as the story progresses and players acquire new abilities. New areas will unlock, and the more of the game world will become accessible, allowing players to explore and experience it in its entirety.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth introduces a new feature in its battle mechanics called the Synergy system. This system allows two characters to perform combo attacks, designed to emphasize character relationships and interactions throughout the game. According to Mr. Hamaguchi, the Synergy system reflects how well characters know and get along with each other and plays a significant role in battles.

While some critics expressed initial concerns about the complexity of the Synergy system, the development team believes that it will grow on players as they progress through the game. The focus on character relationships and the new battle system aims to provide a deeper and more immersive gaming experience in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Release Dates

Last September 2023, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024 as a PS5 exclusive. However, a slide at the end of the latest trailer states that the game "is unavailable on other formats until 29 May 2024." This suggests that there may be a possibility of the game becoming available on other platforms after May 29, 2024, but is still unconfirmed as of writing this article.
