Ys X: Proud Nordics Overview
Ys X: Proud Nordics is the 2025 enhanced version of the original 2023 action RPG game, Ys X: Nordics, originally developed by Nihon Falcom and PH3 GmbH for the 2024 port on Steam. Ys X: Proud Nordics will be releasing on February 20, 2026, for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
Embark on another adventure with Ys series protagonist Adol Christin, an adventuring swordsman, as he and the pirate Karja Batla face off the perils of the northern islands of Obelia Gulf.
In Ys X: Proud Nordics, players can now explore the gulf’s largest landmass: Öland Island. Here, Adol and Karja meet Canute and Astrid, a duo from the Kingdom of Danmerk, an encounter that will uncover the origins of the islands’ people and the power they call Mana.
Ys X: Proud Nordics carries over the original game’s action system with the option to swap between two modes: Solo and Duo. Solo Mode lets players control either Adol or Karja in combat individually. In Duo Mode, both Adol and Karja can be controlled simultaneously as one unit.

Ys X: Proud Nordics Gameplay
Ys X: Proud Nordics continues the series’ iconic action RPG gameplay experience with the introduction of two interswappable modes: Solo and Duo. In Solo Mode, players can switch between Adol and Karja and use their unique skills.
Duo Mode partners up both Adol and Karja as one unit, letting players use a different set of skills when they’re together. Duo Skills, as they are called, can be further strengthened via mastery and the Revenge Gauge.
In Ys X: Proud Nordics, a new dungeon called Muspelheim will be available to players looking for a challenge. This dungeon will have a time limit, various traps, and incredibly powerful opponents.

The Best Modern Ys Entry
The original Ys X: Nordics reviews praised the game for being the best entry in the modern mainline entries. Critics and players alike praised the game's compelling story and polished gameplay mechanics. On the other hand, the naval combat was said to be quite slow in the beginning.

Noisy Pixel gave the game a score of 95, praising its action-packed combat, expansive exploration, gripping narrative, and dynamic character relationships. RPG Fan gave it a score of 93 for its strong story, themes, characters, and combat, calling it a worthy starting point and an excellent evolution for modern Ys fans.
Players praised the game’s combat mechanics, amazing music, compelling characters, and story. While certain fans are split on the modern Ys entries beginning with the 8th mainline game, Ys X: Nordics is often praised as the most polished experience yet.
