Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana Overview
Ys: The Oath in Felghana is an action RPG originally developed and published by Falcom. It was first released for Windows in Japan in 2005 and later for the PSP in 2010. The game is a remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, which debuted in 1989. In 2023, Japan received a remastered version of Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and now it’s making its way to the West with a release date set for January 7, 2025, on PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
This remastered edition includes several upgrades and quality-of-life improvements, such as refined character portraits, newly recorded voice lines for protagonist Adol Christin, and a remastered soundtrack.
The story follows Adol and his blue-haired companion, Dogi, as they arrive unannounced in Dogi’s homeland of Felghana after an eight-year absence. They find the region in turmoil: violent monsters roam the outskirts, a dormant volcano has erupted, and a tyrannical new lord has begun extorting the suffering citizens. Together, Adol and Dogi must unravel the mysteries behind these events, uncover ancient legacies, and confront political conspiracies to bring peace back to Felghana.
Ys: The Oath in Felghana, like other games in the Ys series, offers fast-paced hack-and-slash gameplay with elements of platforming and light puzzle-solving. However, unlike some other entries in the series, this game focuses solely on Adol as the playable character.
