Sonic Rumble Overview

Sonic Rumble is an upcoming multiplayer party battle royale game developed by Sonic Team in collaboration with Rovio Entertainment, the developers behind the Angry Bird series, and published by SEGA. Announced in May 2024, it was previously scheduled to release on May 8, 2025 for PC (via Steam), iOS, and Android platforms, before being delayed to November 5 2025. This title marks the first Sonic the Hedgehog game developed jointly with Rovio following SEGA’s acquisition of the company in 2023.

In Dr. Eggman’s Egg Toy Land, players control miniature toy versions of iconic Sonic characters. These characters then compete in various challenges and obstacles designed by the aforementioned villain, with the goal of collecting the most rings and emerging victorious..

Sonic Rumble features 32-player online matches divided into three rounds: an initial race (Run), a secondary mode (Survival, Hunt, or Team), and a final Ring Battle. Players can customize their characters with various skins and accessories. To do so, the game introduces a monetization model centered around cosmetic items to avoid gacha or pay-to-win mechanics. Additionally, players can form squads of up to four to compete together.

Sonic Rumble Gameplay

Sonic Rumble is a multiplayer party game where up to 32 players compete across three elimination-based rounds. The primary objective across these rounds is to collect Rings, with players advancing based on their Ring count rather than solely on finishing positions. The first round, known as Ring Run, involves going through obstacle courses while collecting rings. The second round varies between modes such as Survival, Team Battle, or Hunt, each with different game mechanics. The final round, Ring Battle, is a free-for-all where players aim to gather the most rings, with the highest ring count determining the winner.

Players can run, jump, and make use of stage-specific features like dash panels and springs to maintain momentum. Stages incorporate elements from the Sonic franchise, such as loop-de-loops, designed to balance competition by allowing trailing players to catch up. There are also randomly spawning power-ups that significantly influence match outcomes by causing players to lose a substantial number of rings when hit.

Version 1.2.0 introduced several features that altered various aspects of the game. For example, a Co-Op Battle Mode was added, in which players collaborate to defeat the Death Queen. Additionally, there are now skills that allow players to perform actions such as increasing movement speed, attacking other players, and attracting nearby rings.
