⚫︎ The release date of upcoming open-world RPG Of Ash and Steel by indie developer Fire & Frost was pushed back from its original release date of November 6, 2025 to November 24, 2025 . Fire & Frost and publisher TinyBuild Games cited several issues that were raised upon the release of the game’s demo in October.
Of Ash and Steel Overview
Of Ash and Steel is an immersive open-world action-adventure RPG set in medieval times, following a nameless cartographer with the potential to shape the fate of the entire world. Players will experience the game from the perspective of this civilian, exploring their environment, forging alliances, fighting off dangerous beasts and bandits, and uncovering the island's secrets.
Of Ash and Steel is slated for release on November 24, 2025, on Steam. A demo is already available for interested players.

Of Ash and Steel Gameplay
Of Ash and Steel encourages players to explore the world at their own pace and on their own terms. Like any traditional RPG, Of Ash and Steel emphasizes player choice. NPCs can react differently to the player depending on how they carry themselves and respond to others. With 45+ hours of main story content, players can throw themselves into a world rich in lore and history through exploration, dialogue, and various readables.
The game also presents players with a deeply complex combat system, complete with skill trees, combat stances, stamina management, parrying, and different playstyles players can experiment with.

Has the Bones of a Good RPG, but Lacks Shine and Polish
Developers Fire & Frost Studios deliver on their promise of providing an old-school RPG experience to gamers. Of Ash and Steel allows players to roam around and explore everything the world has to offer on their own terms and at their own time. It is a classic zero-to-hero journey that never tells players where to go, and for some, this could be an enjoyable return to form, but for us at Game8, we believe that the execution of this familiar formula left much to be desired.
We at Game8 gave Of Ash and Steel a score of 66/100 for an overall lackluster execution of an ambitious project. The visuals are dated, the writing is often flat, and the game still has several performance issues. Its greatest strengths lie in open world exploration and the gains you receive from building Tristan up to become a formidable fighter.
Of Ash and Steel’s unwillingness to hold the players’ hand has worked out in favor of fans of slow burn stories. Though Steam reviews are Mixed for reasons similar to those stated above, a significant number of players find the long journey to be well worth the grind.
