Dynasty Warriors: Origins Overview
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the 10th mainline entry to the action RPG franchise. Dynasty Warriors 10 was in development before it was completely scrapped in order to make way for a fresh start that led to Origins. The game was co-developed by notable fighting game developer, Arc System Works.
The game stars a new nameless protagonist as they go through the famed period of the Three Kingdoms from ancient China. Players will control the hero as they seek to attain peace among the warring kingdoms, but must participate through grand battles themselves in order to proclaim said peace. Players will control the protagonist as they command their troops in the battlefield and cleave across thousands of enemy soldiers, all for the sake of ending war.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins continues the franchise’s iconic action-heavy hack-and-slash gameplay featuring innumerable enemies at once, coining the moniker as a "1 vs. 1000 game." Players will control a powerful character who can perform a multitude of powerful moves in the battlefield to clear out enemies with their weapons. As a commander general, players will also have access to support fire from archers or ordering your ally troops to advance towards a line, thinning out the legions of enemies and providing other plans of attack.
A new mechanic that Origins introduces to the series is the parry, allowing players to precisely negate enemy attacks and immediately retaliate.

A Worthy Reboot For the Franchise
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a welcome reboot for the series as many fans of the franchise commend the newest entry for innovating on a formula well-worn from the decades. Our review at Game8 gives it praise for retaining the one-man army gameplay while improving it with many additional seamless features that don’t detract from the focus of the gameplay. Likening it to an old dog that learned new tricks, Dynasty Warriors: Origins feels like a step forward for the franchise, all the while still keeping its core identity.
Other news outlets such as IGN bestow it an ‘Amazing’ at 9/10, applauding the feat of being able to place the largest amount of enemies onscreen in the series’ history, but also how it has improved on several others beats such as the combat, storytelling, and replayability. Polygon agrees, pointing out how the game truly makes one feel immersed at the scale of the ‘1 vs. 1000’ gameplay, being able to surprise them multiple times throughout their 35-hour playthrough. However, Eurogamer shares their mixed take on the game, branding many of its changes welcomed or unwelcomed. Though they still acknowledge the game has its merits, they can only be found underneath a layer of undercooked ideas.
