Age of Darkness: Final Stand is an action RTS that challenges players to withstand relentless swarms of Nightmares attacking their settlement. Depending on the chosen mode, players either face a finite series of increasingly difficult waves or test their endurance in an infinite survival mode.
Each game begins with the selection of one of two champions, offered by the game’s three factions—The Order, The Rebellion, and The Volatists. This decision shapes the player’s strategy, emphasizing unique strengths and weaknesses throughout the match.
Settlements start modestly, centered around a single stronghold and supported by a small group of units. These initial resources are used to clear nearby areas of wandering Nightmares, secure vital resource nodes, and establish early defenses in preparation for incoming waves.
As in-game days progress, the Nightmare forces grow in strength and numbers, forcing players to continually expand their defenses, construct walls, train troops, and manage resources to survive each escalating assault.
