Xbox CEO Apologizes for Under-Delivering on Redfall Release
Spencer Says Game Will Be Improved
Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox Game Studios, has apologized for under-delivering on Redfall, a co-op vampire slaying FPS that recently launched and received criticism from disappointed players.
In an interview with Kinda Funny Xcast, Spencer acknowledged that the confidence of the community was lost with the game, and even expressed disappointment and frustration with himself over its quality and execution.
Not a Matter of Delaying the Game
In response to a question of whether or not Redfall's release should've been delayed for polishing, Spencer said a delay would not have solved the issues. According to him, it was more about the team behind it not realizing its creative vision for the game.
Despite criticism lobbed against Redfall, Spencer said he still supports Arkane Studios Austin, the development team behind the game, citing their track record.
Redfall Panned on Release
Redfall was critically panned following its release earlier this month, with several outlets citing bland missions, underwhelming AI, and other technical problems. It received a dismal score of 2.7 out of 10 from Metacritic, while IGN and Gamespot gave it a score of 4 out of 10.
