Vivid World Review (Demo)

A Simply Addictive Gem

If I were to describe Vivid World, I would say it’s simple yet highly addictive, thanks to its fast-paced gameplay loop. This 2D roguelike party builder centers around Lumeria, a girl trapped in the Underworld who is on a quest to save her friends, who are also ensnared. Your objective is to explore each dungeon, called Limbo, defeating the boss at the end of each section to move closer to rescuing your friends' souls.

The dungeons are divided into levels, each containing sections to navigate, reminiscent of traditional roguelikes. Your goal is to locate keys to access the next level, all while managing your mana as you traverse each area as quickly as possible. Lumeria wields Jewel Magic, allowing her to obtain jewels that transform into quirky characters with unique abilities for combat. You can also collect, buy, and sell items to aid you in battle.

Combat is turn-based and automatic, where you use items called Gems to perform actions such as attacking, shielding your party members, or healing them. Some Gems can even be used outside of combat. There's also a TP system that enables you to unleash a powerful skill once you accumulate enough points, reaching 100% through gameplay. Gems can be found in treasure chests, purchased in stores, or combined to create stronger variants. Similarly, you can collect Jewel characters and upgrade your team by acquiring duplicates and selling them for additional currency.

The gameplay loop is straightforward yet incredibly enjoyable; it's fast-paced, and you can even increase the speed for an added challenge. The demons in this game pack a punch, and losing means you'll forfeit all your characters, upgrades, and money, forcing you to restart in the dungeon—just like any good roguelike. Mixing and matching different characters and jewels while speeding through levels is a blast, and I’m eager to see more characters introduced soon. My current favorite is Pearla, whose ability enhances magic gain.

Simple but Expressive Art-Style

One of the main reasons I’m eager to see more characters introduced is the unique and captivating designs of the Jewels. I particularly love the aesthetics of Pearla and Pyri, and the game’s cute gothic lolita style adds quite an appealing touch. While the dungeons are straightforward, their design makes navigating them enjoyable and quick.

The soundtrack is also surprisingly fun, especially during boss fights, enhancing the overall experience.

This game is definitely worth checking out for roguelike enthusiasts and deck-building fans, as it offers an addictive gameplay experience. According to the developers, the story will also become increasingly plot-heavy as the game progresses.
