Silent Hill: Townfall Gameplay

Silent Hill: Townfall differentiates itself from other Silent Hill games through different mechanics, although some of the series' staples do remain, such as the core loop of exploration, combat, and atmospheric dread that's become synonimous with Silent Hill as an IP. Other minor mechanics were also shown in the game's announcement
Exploring St. Amelia in First-Person

Silent Hill: Townfall's POV is notably a first-person experience while under the player's control. This is a major departure from the game's usual third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective. This opens the floor for more personal, in-your-face engagements, scares, and horror, and pairs well with the game's visceral ranged and melee combat.
Melee and Ranged Combat Mechanics

Similar to the recently-released Silent Hill f, players are equipped with varying means to defend themselves against horrors in Silent Hill: Townfall. The specifics of combat mechanics, both ranged and melee, are yet to be revealed, but snippets of both were showcased in the game's announcement trailer. Simon Ordell, the game's protagonist, can equip himself with random bits of debris, such as a wooden club, to beat down enemies within arm's length. Ranged combat is similarly simple, with the shown example being a snubnosed revolver shot against a horror in the mist.
The combat shown in the trailer notably has no reticle or other HUD elements for health, ammunition, stamina, or other gameplay elements. It is currently unclear if they will be present in the release, or if they have been deliberately minimized or removed to improve the game's cinematic atmosphere.
Detecting Monsters with the CRT TV Gadget

Among Simon Ordell's equipment is a handheld CRT device of unknown make and origin. It's currently unclear what function the device serves mechanically, but Simon is shown detecting the presence of enemies using the device in the trailer.
