Hytale Gameplay
4 Game Modes
Adventure Mode
Players can experience the game’s narrative in Adventure Mode, in which they will enter the Earth-like world of Orbis. In Adventure Mode, each player can explore and continually build their base to survive their selected biome and eventually gain the tools needed to conduct expeditions of their own.
Once they have established themselves, players can set out into the world to interact with NPCs and fully immerse themselves in the game’s story.
It has been confirmed that Adventure Mode will not be available in Early Access for the time being. We’ll update this section as soon as Hypixel announces any changes.
Exploration Mode
Rather than focusing on a single biome and story, Exploration Mode will focus more on exploration, survival, and base-building in procedurally generated locations. Players can craft items, hunt for loot, face off against various enemies, and set up their own farm. While there will be no storyline to follow in Exploration Mode, players can still discover various fragments of Hytale’s lore on top of additional easter eggs.
Unlike Adventure Mode, Exploration Mode is available to play in Early Access.
Creative Mode
Similar to Minecraft, Hytale has its very own creative mode, where players will be able to stretch the limits of their imaginations to bring entire worlds to life. Creative Mode equips players with unlimited resources for them to shape the world and customize models to their heart’s content.
Competitive Multiplayer
Competitive Multiplayer will feature a large selection of competitive minigames, which can all be accessed via a central hub known as The Capital. Hypixel has not announced any information about minigames in Hytale, and like Adventure Mode, this game mode will be unavailable in Early Access until further notice.
Blending Sandbox and Role-Playing
Hytale gameplay emphasizes combat, survival, exploration, and building—all of which are baked into the game’s four game modes: Adventure Mode, where players can immerse themselves in the planet Orbis as they dive deep into the game’s lore; Exploration Mode, where players can freely explore and face down challenges put forth by procedurally-generated biomes (Zones); Creative Mode, where players are unkillable and given unlimited resources to shape worlds to their preferences; and lastly, Competitive Multiplayer, which invites players to take part in minigames together or against one another.
Exploration and Restoration
Hytale offers various biomes, known as Zones, with distinct terrains, enemies, and factions. From what has been revealed of the Cursebreaker Arc and descriptions of Exploration Mode, players will run into enemies, ancient relics, and puzzles. Solving puzzles will bring them closer and closer to breathing life back into Orbis and restoring the land to its former glory.
Combat and Survival
Having been ravaged by a powerful curse, Orbis is now home to all kinds of dangerous beings that seek to destroy the player. As players explore, they may encounter different enemies roaming around their selected Zone.
Given that survival is a key component of the gameplay, players will have to farm materials in their environment to create the tools necessary for their survival. This includes chopping down wood, foraging, mining, and taking down enemies.
Building and Crafting
Hytale seeks to cater to players who wish to have an immersive RPG experience and players who simply want to create and have full control over their original creations. In Exploration Mode, players have to gather valuable resources to build and secure their base. In Creative Mode, players will be given all the tools needed to bring entire worlds to life. They can build upon empty worlds and populate them block by block using in-game materials, scripted brushes, and a variety of other tools and commands.
Hytale Story Plot
The Cursebreaker Arc: A Fragmented World
Though Hypixel has not yet confirmed the overarching plot in Adventure Mode, promotional footage and concept art released before the Early Access launch have unveiled the Cursebreaker Arc. This arc takes place in a world known as Orbis, once a biologically diverse planet teeming with life, nurtured by the goddess Gaia. However, what players see in official trailers tells the story of an Orbis fragmented by an unknown cataclysm. Orbis is now overrun by hostile creatures, and the kingdom that once ruled Orbis is now left in ruins. Orbis has found itself suspended in time, unable to be free of a curse that has frozen Gaia and now prevents the planet from healing.
Break the Curse
Players will take on the role of the Cursebreaker tasked with the restoration of Orbis. To accomplish this, they will have to explore the planet’s many biomes, setting up bases, vanquishing dark foes, and excavating valuable artifacts.
