Reports emerged of Xbox users receiving bans for using the console's capture tools to record scenes featuring explicit scenes and naked characters in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). The issue gained attention when u/Daddy-Vegas shared on Reddit that they had been banned for a year due to recording explicit content.

"I recorded 3 clips last night of some naked camp time fun. XBox, by default, uploads all recorded clips to the server for easy sharing. Each clip counted as a different infraction and got my account banned for a year," wrote the player in the Baldur's Gate 3 forum. "I'm hoping the appeals process fixes this, but as of now; I can't play any game that requires a network connection (Basically making all the money I put into MW3 over the last 6 months even more worthless)."

Microsoft maintains a strict policy on content sharing on Xbox, and by default, any captured media is uploaded to servers compliant with this policy and services agreement. According to Xbox's community guidelines, violation thereof can result in the restriction of certain features for the profile that created or shared the content. One of the consequences for what Xbox deems as inapproriate conduct is a restriction on the use of online multiplayer gaming.

BG3 Devs Advise Players to Turn Off Mature Content for the Meantime

Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, acknowledged the bans and assured affected players that steps were being taken to resolve the issue. Larian Studios took to social media to inform Xbox players that bans associated with flagged capture clips were in the process of being lifted. Players were advised to turn off mature content if they intend to upload clips.

Larian's Director of Publishing Michael Douse provided updates on the progress. The Microsoft team was said to be engaged in addressing the situation.

Confirmation was received that bans were starting to lift, and ongoing discussions with Microsoft were mentioned. However, specific details regarding the circumstances remained unclear, as Douse emphasized that Microsoft was managing its "own policy discussions."
