Where Winds Meet Hexi Expansion Launches March 6 With New Regions and Weapons

Where Winds Meet welcomes the Hexi expansion on March 6, introducing three new regions, powerful bosses, and unique landscapes. Read on to learn more about what was revealed so far and what players can expect in the upcoming update.

Where Winds Meet’s Hexi Expansion Brings a Dreamlike New Region in March

A New Region Spanning Sands, Snow, and Ancient Trails

Where Winds Meet is set to expand on March 6, 2026, with the launch of Hexi, a brand-new region that introduces new otherworldly landscapes, mythical enemies, story content, and combat additions to the wuxia open-world RPG.

According to a dev letter uploaded on February 3 on the game's official Twitter (X) account, Hexi is meant to be a dreamlike journey into the past, where Wanderers will encounter legendary heroes and explore a vast new territory. This was followed by a trailer uploaded to YouTube on February 14, offering a brief glimpse into the expansion's new locales, bosses, and story.

Hexi will unfold in a serialized format, with three major regions—Jade Gate Pass, Liangzhou, and Qinchuan—opening gradually in chapters roughly four weeks apart. Each region has its own unique aesthetic: Jade Gate is defined by wind-choked deserts and drifting sands, Liangzhou by pale, snow-covered plains, and Qinchuan by ancient, timeworn mountain paths.

These new environments are punctuated by surreal landmarks, such as massive ruins suspended in midair, giving the region a mythic tone that complements the expansion’s narrative journey.

Alongside its new locations, Hexi introduces new creatures and powerful bosses, some of which wield lightning-based attacks that may hint at narrative themes that could tie into future campaign content. One striking example glimpsed in the trailer resembles Nuwa, a figure from Chinese mythology often depicted with a human upper body and a serpent’s tail.

Additionally, the developers emphasized that "the Hexi region contains a massive amount of narrative content deeply rooted in traditional Chinese history and wuxia culture." To ensure international players can fully appreciate these themes, the team said it invested significantly more time into translation and cultural adaptation, going beyond direct localization.

New Martial Arts and Weapons Coming with Hexi

The Hexi expansion will also bring new combat content. Players will gain access to a new martial art path, Bamboocut - Dust, which adds another style of fighting tied to long-range and Area of Effect (AoE) attacks, displacement, and enemy grouping.

In April, Hexi will introduce a new weapon type known as the Heng Blade, along with another martial art path, Stonesplit - Strength. The Heng Blade is inspired by historical ring-pommel swords from China’s Jiannan region and is designed for fast, close-range combat with powerful strikes.

Rather than releasing everything at once, the developers explained that "to provide a more cohesive journey for our overseas wanderers, we plan content updates based on narrative pacing, gameplay progression, and development readiness." This chapter-based structure is designed to let each region’s story unfold naturally while the team continues working on performance optimizations across PC, PS5, and mobile platforms.

At the same time, improvements to localization for Qinghe and Kaifeng are underway, alongside broader language support updates.
