Everything Announced at the Suikoden LIVE TGS 2025 Stage

Suikoden Star Leap Gameplay Preview and Character Reveal

Suikoden Start Leap Title and Logo

They started off the Suikoden LIVE TGS 2025 Stage with new information about Suikoden Star Leap, their upcoming RPG for PC and mobile. They began by introducing some of the game’s initial characters, namely the protagonist (simply referred to as the Hero), his servant and ally Hisui, his father Hou, childhood friend Shirin, and teacher-butler Shapur, touching on their character profiles and officially introducing their respective voice actors.

Afterwards, they showcased gameplay, particularly centered around what players can do in The Village, the hero’s hometown. After tragedy strikes their hometown, the Hero, accompanied by Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur, is determined to restore their home to its former glory—with the help of various allies they meet along the way.

At the Village home base, allies can be sent on expeditions for resources, and their equipment can be enhanced and upgraded for better damage. Journey through dungeons and hostile areas to acquire treasure and valuable loot, which can then be used to power up characters or improve the village. After a hard day’s work, players can also relax by engaging in mini-games with their party members, such as fishing, cooking, farming, whack-a-mole, apple-picking, and more. These activities will net materials and improve affection levels as well.

New supporting characters have also been revealed, with the team spotlighting characters like Chloe and the Falmer siblings Lei and Lian. Others were confirmed to be making their return to the Suikoden series, such as Viki and Jeane (or Neaje), who have both made appearances in all previous mainline Suikoden titles. Fans can also look forward to appearances from other returning characters like Odessa, Flik, and Viktor—all with brand new character designs.

Anime Genso Suikoden Coming in 2026

Jowy and Riliu Illustration
After the gameplay showcase, Suikoden IP Producer Rui Naito was later joined by Suikoden Director Takahiro Sakiyama, who made an appearance along with Suikoden STAR LEAP Producer Shinya Fujimatsu and the voice actors of the three main characters of Suikoden II: the protagonist, Jowy, and Nanami.

During this segment, the Suikoden executives finally gave the nameless MC his official name for the anime through a grand reveal with Director Takahiro Sakiyama stepping forward, wooden board in hand, to reveal the name Riliu. Prior to the reveal, fans often used the name Riou to refer to Suikoden II’s protagonist. The name Riou was also used for Suikoden II manga adaptations and other media, but was never deemed the official name for the protagonist.

Riliu Name Reveal

The cast members were then asked about their thoughts on being cast for the Suikoden anime, with the voice actors expressing their excitement and happiness. Riliu’s voice actor, Toshiki Kumagai, shared that he was already nervous from the start of the audition. Aside from that, the program also unveiled the Genso Suikoden anime-exclusive character designs for Riliu, Jowy, and Nanami, as well as Viktor and Flik’s character profiles for the first time, with them voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi and Yuuichi Nakamura, respectively. Konishi also made an appearance during the panel, introducing himself as Viktor for both the anime and the upcoming drama CD, asking for fans’ unwavering support.

To close out the showcase, they showed a still of the iconic intro scene where Riliu and Jowy mark a specific spot near the cliff and promise to meet up in this spot if they ever get separated. The anime is set to release sometime in 2026.

Suikoden World Geography

World Map of the Suikoden Universe

Following the anime showcase, a short history lesson was conducted, showing a world map of the Suikoden universe. First, they began by showing the different regions where each game takes place, highlighting the main regions of the world of Suikoden. They also mention that STAR LEAP will take place near the Toran Republic, where its capital, Gregminster, is located.

Next, they focus on the geography of the northern region, showcasing where the anime will take place. There, they explain the setup between the war of the Jowston Alliance and the Highland Empire. The presenters then showcase the hometown of the protagonists of the anime, Kyaro Town, along with the capital city of Highland L’Renouille.

Additionally, they feature the 5 city-states comprising the Jowston Alliance, namely Greenhill, Two-River, Tinto, Muse, and South Window, with the support of the Matilda Knightdom to the north. The main headquarters of the alliance is North Window, which is strategically located at the center of the region.

Stage Play "Genso Suikoden - Gate Crest War Arc"

In contrast to the anime, the Suikoden stage play tells the story of Suikoden I. Just like the last segment, the long-nameless Suikoden I protagonist was given a canon name: Rean McDohl. Similar to Riliu of Suikoden II, many fans of Suikoden referred to Read McDohl as Tir McDohl.

Rean McDohl will be played by Okamura Naoki, who was invited onstage dressed as Rean in his iconic green bandana and red qipao combo. He demonstrated a few moves for the audience with his bo staff and sat down with the host and his fellow guests to promote the upcoming stage play, during which they revealed the play’s official promotional poster.

The poster featured many familiar characters from the first Suikoden title, such as Kasumi, Luc, Teo McDohl, Odessa, Cleo, Ted, Flik, Viktor, and more.

The Fantasy Museum was then introduced by the museum director, Misato Watanabe, where its concept is a museum that houses the weapons, costumes, accessories, and more that the heroes of Suikoden I and II actually used and wore.
