Silksong gets a Steam package update after 15 months, which sparks shadow drop rumors. Read on to learn more about what this update may indicate, and fans' thoughts on its possible surprise release.
Hollow Knight Silksong Release Imminent
Steam Package Updated After 15 Months
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release has been a hot topic once more since its appearance in Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct in April, but its recent backend activity on Steam has fans excited for a possible release soon. In a Twitter (X) post on June 3, user Wario64 spotted some changes on Silksong’s "packages" on SteamDB.
Package updates are great indicators that a game is in active development. The fact that these packages saw changes after being relatively untouched for 15 months bodes well for its progress, and fans are more than happy. This is especially true here since, the last time its SteamDB page was updated in March of this year, Silksong had a brief appearance in the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct.
Although nothing has been confirmed, the same instance could very well happen again. With Summer Game Fest 2025 just around the corner, coupled with the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase and PlayStation State of Play, there are multiple opportunities for developer Team Cherry to give fans an update on the long-awaited Hollow Knight sequel.
Possible Shadow Drop?
In typical Silksong fan fashion, any update, whether minor or major, had them go berserk and speculate about the game’s release. With Switch 2’s launch coming this week, fans noted the possibility of the game having a surprise release alongside the next-gen handheld console.
Twitter user @Papa_Kutz shared Wario64’s SteamDB update tweet and said that this may indicate Silksong’s shadow drop on Switch 2. Meanwhile, @switcheroo99 hopes that it may finally come out this week. Other comments revolve around the community once again breathing in copium that the game will have any substantial information this coming weekend.
Regardless, fans’ excitement is warranted given the game’s recent SteamDB updates and multiple chances for Team Cherry to unveil something in this week's celebration of video games and showcases. A playable version of Silksong will also be in an Australian museum in September, which may point to its potential release sometime around that period.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
