Confirmed for 2025 Release, But No Official Release Date Just Yet
After years of speculation, memes, and mounting anticipation, Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally secured an official release window. Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel is set to launch in 2025 across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The announcement arrived during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, with Geoff Keighley debuting fresh gameplay footage as the showcase’s very first reveal. While no specific release date was confirmed during the presentation, Team Cherry will share that detail on their own livestream scheduled for August 21, 2025.
The End of an Era of Memes and Teases
For many, the reveal, or rather, the confirmation of a reveal, marks the end of a near-mythic wait. Since its original unveiling all the way back in 2019, Silksong has been the subject of countless rumors, predictions, and playful internet skepticism, fueling one of the most enduring memes in modern gaming. Every major showcase seemed a possible moment for the sequel’s return, only to leave fans guessing once more.
The most notable tease before Gamescom came during Summer Game Fest 2025, where Silksong was casually name-dropped in the world premiere of Deadpool VR in place of getting its own dedicated segment. The game was also notably absent from the latest Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, but did make a very brief appearance during the April 2025 Nintendo Direct.
Finally, the game actually got some decent screentime at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, where new gameplay footage was revealed running on the newly announced Xbox ROG Ally.
Thankfull, the cycle of teases and near-misses is finally broken. Silksong is not only real, but also playable. Attendees at Gamescom 2025 can experience the game's live demo firsthand at both the Nintendo and Xbox booths on the show floor.
