Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Announcement Leads to 8 Delays and Counting
Silksong Has Indie Devs Getting Out of the Way

Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally releasing on September 4, 2025, and while fans are ecstatic, the news of its impending launch has other indie game studios moving their own release dates to avoid being overshadowed by the highly anticipated metroidvania.
Right off the bat, Aeternum Game Studios announced that Aeterna Lucis would be delayed to 2026 on the same day that Silksong’s launch date was unveiled. In their announcement, the studio thanked Team Cherry for revitalizing the metroidvania genre but also stated that the Hollow Knight follow-up wasn’t the only reason for their delay. Instead of competing, they’re taking this as an opportunity to further polish their game, address some technical issues, and work on ensuring a simultaneous release on all next-gen platforms.
In the same week, CloverPit, Faeland, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, and Demonschool would follow suit, all crediting the forthcoming Silksong release as the reason for the delay.

Stomp and the Sword of Miracles’ developers Frogteam Games saw themselves as "little krill trying not to get eaten by a blue whale," while Demonschool’s Ysbyrd Games likened launching back-to-back with Silksong to swimming in blood-red waters. Panik Arcade, on the other hand, needed much fewer words to explain their predicament, humorously writing "We have to delay CloverPit a bit (Silksong lol)!" in their announcement’s headline.
Faeland and Stomp and the Sword of Miracles have yet to receive a new launch date, while CloverPit and Demonschool are each slated for release on September 26 and November 19.

This week, three more were added to the growing list of delayed games. Little Witch in Woods, Megabonk, and Baby Steps' early September release dates have been moved to the 15th, 18th, and 23rd of September, respectively.
Notably, the Foddian Baby Steps announced their delay with gameplay footage featuring a level modeled after Hornet, Silksong’s protagonist, and fans are asking that this be left in the final game as an easter egg.
Excitement for Silksong at an All-Time High

Initially envisioned as a DLC for the original Hollow Knight in 2014, Silksong would eventually be announced as a standalone sequel in 2019. Silence and showcase absences would mar the years that followed, but that did little to stop the hype train. Fast forward to 2025, and Silksong is the most wishlisted game on Steam of all time, with approximately 5.2 million players keeping tabs. The original Hollow Knight even recently doubled its previous all-time Steam record with 45,595 concurrent players.
Six years post-initial unveiling, Silksong was revealed to be coming just two weeks after the release date’s announcement, sending the game’s fanbase into a frenzy and prompting other developers to delay their games to steer clear of the long-awaited Team Cherry project’s scene-stealing debut.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release on September 4, 2025 for PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. To stay up to date with everything Silksong, check out our article below!
