Offline Mode Still Noticeably Absent

Redfall’s latest update introduces numerous bug fixes, balance patches, as well as a new sniper rifle called the “Basilisk.” In the update notes, they also mentioned the ongoing development of the Hero Pass, their eventual battle pass system for the game. Afterward, they state that they’re “excited to share more about Redfall’s new heroes and other updates later next year.” implying that this was the last update for this year.

Players were left disappointed as the update did not include an option to play offline, and that it won’t arrive until next year at the very least. Redfall faced criticism at release for its always-online requirement, and efforts to implement an offline mode have been mentioned by the developers in past interviews. The further delay has increased unrest among the already dwindling player base.

The Hero Pass

The Hero Pass was included in Redfall’s “Bite Back Edition” at release back in May 2023 but has yet to be properly implemented. It is supposed to grant access to two future heroes with unique powers and gameplay. However, no details have yet to be provided for the promised Hero pass, as the patch notes state to expect more information next year, well after the launch of the game.

Redfall’s Past and Future

Redfall received negative reviews from both critics and players at release, citing bland missions, problematic enemies, and technical issues. Despite the initial criticism, however, Bethesda remains hopeful about Redfall’s future. Former Head of Publishing Pete Hines expressed optimism in an interview, where he compared Redfalls’ rocky launch to the challenging start of Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 76 back in 2018. Only time will tell if Redfall can mimic Fallout 76’s uphill climb toward improvements.
