Similar Boss Battles To RE and RE2

Resident Evil Requiem’s (RE9) boss battles will be similar to Resident Evil (RE) and Resident Evil 2 (RE2). In an interview with Automaton during Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2025, Game Director Koshi Nakanishi shared more details about RE9’s boss battles.
He confirmed that boss battles will return for the game, but will have more depth and require more strategy to beat them. Unlike games where players can defeat enemies in a flashy manner, RE9 is more methodical and pushes fans to use their wits to overcome them.
Nakanishi stated, "Of course, there will be boss battles. However, rather than defeating enemies in a flashy manner as you progress through the game, like in games that emphasize gun shooting action, the style is more like Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, where players expand their exploration area in a closed space and overcome obstacles using their wits."

This is also reflected and highlighted in the personality of the game’s protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. Those who aren’t well-versed in the horror genre will easily relate to Grace, as she is also experiencing these horrific events for the first time, using everything in her arsenal and vicinity as a means of survival.
As the game progresses, Grace and the players will eventually overcome these fears, making this process a significant highlight of the game. Nakanishi noted, "Grace is scared at first, but the situation eventually causes her to snap, and she becomes able to fight her enemies. Being able to experience this process of growth together with the protagonist is one of the highlights of the game."
The Hooded Killer is NOT A Returning Character

Speaking of boss battles, ever since the first teaser dropped for RE9, several rumors regarding different aspects of the game have surfaced. One of which is the identity of the "Hooded Killer," which is seen for most of RE9’s trailers.
RE9 Game Director Koshi Nakanishi and Producer Masato Kumazawa sat down with The Gamer on September 30 and shared some details regarding the Hooded Killer. Nakanishi confirmed that the "hooded man" is one of the key antagonists in the game.
Kumazawa hinted that there will be a connection with The Umbrella Corporation, whose logo can be seen in the trailers. However, both developers quickly debunked fan theories that suggest that the hooded man is a returning character from previous RE titles.

Both developers stated, "Everyone is convinced [the hooded figure] has to be a reveal of a returning cast member, and there is speculation that it ‘must be this person’ or ‘must be that person’. But we don't always want to just lean on surprise comebacks like these." They emphasized that the hooded man is a new character created for the game’s storyline.
With RE9 ramping up towards its launch early next year, the developers are starting to reveal more of the "bad guy" side of the storyline. This can only be amplified in the coming weeks and months as Capcom shares more information in the near future.
