Limited-Time Event Runs July 1-14
Overwatch 2, the free-to-play first-person hero shooter from Blizzard Entertainment, returns with a crossover event coinciding with America’s Independence Day (4th of July). From July 1 to 14, players can choose to side with either G.I. Joe or the villainous Cobra as they take on Special Ops challenges in-game. These challenges will be available across Quick Play, Competitive, and Stadium modes, offering themed rewards like exclusive character skins, voice lines, sprays, and a weapon charm.
Much like Overwatch’s struggle against Talon, G.I. Joe is centered around an elite military unit dedicated to combating a worldwide criminal syndicate called Cobra. First introduced as a toyline during the 1960s, the series is known for its ensemble of unique characters, high-tech weaponry, and large-scale missions, often highlighting teamwork in the face of global threats.

Genji, Freja, Reaper, Widowmaker, and Doomfist are set to receive limited-time cosmetics inspired by characters from G.I. Joe and Cobra. These themed skins will be available as individual bundles or as part of a larger Mega Bundle.
Based on pricing seen in past collabs, individual bundles are expected to cost around 2,500 Overwatch Coins, while the full collection may be priced at approximately 5,900 Coins—roughly translating to $25 and $59, respectively. Each bundle will come with various matching cosmetic items, such as voice lines, sprays, and more.

Community reactions have been largely positive, with many fans expressing excitement over the thematic alignment between Overwatch and G.I. Joe. However, some fans have noted the missed opportunity to have Soldier 76 as Duke, the team leader and main G.I Joe.
Duke is known for being a brave and skilled leader with a strong sense of duty. His background as a decorated soldier is very similar to Soldier 76 from Overwatch and would balance the number of heroes and villain skins featured in the event. It remains to be seen whether Blizzard will address this in a future update or sweep the missing G.I Joe under a rug.
Overwatch 2 x G.I. Joe will launch on July 1, 2025. The game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam, Battle.net). To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
