Following its announcement in January of this year, the Mortal Kombat 2 film is now slated for release on October 24, 2025. Here’s everything known about Mortal Kombat 2 so far.

As film shooting is officially wrapped up, Warner Bros have set the release date of Mortal Kombat 2 to October 24, 2025, says Variety.

The movie sequel is directed by the first Mortal Kombat’s director, Simon McQuoid, with Jeremy Slater of "Moon Knight" fame as the film's screenwriter. And as a plus; Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat game director and co-creator, is also confirmed to be deeply involved with the sequel.

While no plot details have been publicized, Director McQuoid has previously implied the possibility of a gory action franchise in a Variety interview. McQuoid says "I guess I don’t want death to be something that is inconsequential. That is something I certainly thought about as we discussed this story and what that means. So I think there are opportunities there..." and "There’s a lot of interesting characters, story and material to work with. So we haven’t really dug into it."

    Mortal Kombat 2 Cast

Lewis Tan will reprise his role as Cole Young, the original protagonist of the previous installment. With him are his fellow cast members Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, to name a few.

They are also joined by new cast members playing the roles of fan favorites such as Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, and Adaline Rudolph as Kitana. Director McQuoid quotes in an earlier 2021 interview with Variety that he "get[s] asked about Kitana just as much as Johnny Cage." Kitana and Johnny Cage's live-action debut is sure to be a hit with fans of the franchise. The characters King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Jade will be taken on by Damon Herriman, Ana Thu Nguyen, and Tati Gabrielle respectively.

With such a star-studded cast and staff behind the scenes, in addition to the blessing of Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat 2 is set to be a hit. At least, that's what Lewis Tan says about the upcoming movie.

"But no, we're full steam ahead. And now, we have Ed Boon with us as well, so we got the stamp of approval from the legend himself. #2 is just going to be absolutely insane. Way bigger."
