Super Mario 64 speedrunning just became a whole lot harder to top now that one speedrunner holds all 5 of the game’s major speedrunning titles. Read on to learn more about Super Mario 64’s speedrunning scene and how one player shattered it.

Speedrunner Claims All Major Mario 64 Speedrunning Titles

“An Unbelievable Achievement”

The Super Mario 64 speedrunning scene is in a state of awe and celebration as renowned speedrunner Suigi achieves an unprecedented milestone. By securing the top spot in the fiercely competitive 70 Star category, Suigi has become the first player in history to hold world records across all five major Super Mario 64 speedrunning categories simultaneously—a feat many consider unmatched and potentially unrepeatable.

Suigi's winning run, uploaded to his official YouTube channel GreenSuigi, clocked in at an impressive 46 minutes and 26 seconds. This time narrowly edged out Japanese speedrunner ikori_o by just two seconds—a minuscule margin in any other context but a monumental gap in the precision-driven world of speedrunning, where every millisecond counts.

Speedrunning historian and popular YouTuber Summoning Salt took to Twitter (X) to celebrate Suigi's accomplishment in a detailed thread, calling it “an unbelievable achievement.” Providing context for Suigi’s dominance, Salt explained, “The five categories are 120 Star, 70 Star, 16 Star, 1 Star, and 0 Star. They require very different [skillsets]—the shorter ones are only 6–7 minutes long, while the longest is over 1 hour 30 minutes. Being able to hold all five despite heavy competition is unbelievable.”

Salt further emphasized Suigi’s feat, noting, “Not only does Suigi hold all five, but he holds most by a huge margin. Nobody else can even get close to some of these.” Particular attention was given to Suigi’s 16 Star record, the crown jewel of speedrunning categories, which was set over a year ago and still leads by an astonishing six-second margin.

In the Running to be The Best Speedrunner of All Time

The significance of Suigi’s achievement has not been lost on the Super Mario 64 community, with many—Summoning Salt included—praising him as possibly the greatest player the game has ever seen.

In his celebratory thread, Summoning Salt noted that while legendary speedrunners like Cheese and Akki dominated individual categories such as 120 Star and 16 Star respectively, Suigi’s unprecedented feat of holding all five major records simultaneously—with no serious challengers in sight—may even position him as one of the greatest speedrunners in history.

What’s equally remarkable is the overwhelmingly positive reception to this news within the community. Fans have expressed their admiration for Suigi's dedication and skill, noting the stark contrast to other speedrunning scenes, such as those for racing games, where one person dominating all major titles is often seen as a threat to the competitive spirit. In those communities, there have even been coordinated efforts to dethrone the top player.

In the case of Super Mario 64, however, Suigi's achievement is being celebrated as a testament to the game's enduring challenge and the incredible talent it continues to attract. The community’s respect and support highlight the collaborative spirit that defines this beloved corner of speedrunning.
