The Showcase Will Feature A Fundraiser for 50,000 Trees in Timor-Leste
The Green Games Showcase is shaping up to be more than just a celebration of environmentally themed titles—it’s emerging as a rallying cry for conservationists, climate advocates, and nature-loving gamers worldwide.
This year’s showcase goes beyond awareness, launching a direct-action initiative to restore endangered animal habitats in Timor-Leste. In partnership with local nonprofit WithOneSeed, the showcase aims to raise enough funds by June 30 to plant 50,000 trees, supporting vital reforestation efforts and the revival of at-risk ecosystems in the region.
Hosted by journalist and presenter Will Freeman, the Green Games Showcase will feature a dedicated Q&A segment with industry legend Sir Ian Livingstone CBE. Their conversation will explore how video games can serve as powerful tools for environmental engagement and help drive tangible, real-world impact.
Running through June 30, 2025, this initiative is part of a growing movement to merge the power of play with purpose, reminding the industry and its audience that games can be more than entertainment; they can be agents of global change.
SOLARPUNK JAM Winners Will Be Revealed
In addition to its ambitious environmental call to action, the Green Games Showcase will also celebrate creative innovation with the reveal of winners and finalists from the Day Zero Games: SOLARPUNK JAM. This global game jam invited developers to craft titles inspired by the Solarpunk movement, and the best among them will now be able to shine and make a difference through the lens of game development.

In a first for Summer Game Fest, the Green Games Showcase is set to shine a spotlight on the growing intersection between gaming and environmental action. Organized by PlanetPlay—a not-for-profit dedicated to leveraging games for real-world sustainability—the event marks a major milestone in the industry’s commitment to the planet.
More than just a showcase, this initiative will directly contribute to global reforestation efforts by enabling the planting of 50,000 trees for habitat restoration. It stands as the only gaming announcement event to tie digital engagement with such a tangible environmental impact.
The showcase will highlight a handpicked selection of titles across all platforms that are leading the charge in eco-conscious game development. From games that place sustainability at the heart of their gameplay, to those featuring in-game events designed to raise awareness or inspire action, and even titles that channel proceeds directly into green causes, Green Games Showcase aims to redefine what it means to play for a purpose.
