ESRB has rated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as T for teen. Additionally, they released a summary explaining why it’s rated T. The summary reveals a variety of interesting stuff that fans have already started speculating about.

The summary starts off by explaining things that were already expected from the remake, like its ARPG nature, Cloud’s planet-saving quest, the use of weapons, spells, and the presence of impact sounds, cries of pain, and explosions during combat.

However, the next parts of the summary are bound to get the attention of fans of the franchise. The summary continues: "Cutscenes depict further instances of violence, sometimes with splatters/pools of blood: characters impaled or slashed by swords, sometimes with slow-motion effects; an assassin throwing a spinning blade at a targeted figure; characters shot by soldiers." As you probably already know, Aerith dies in the original Final Fantasy 7 and is killed by Sephiroth impaling her with his sword. This information may hint at Aerith’s demise once again. That being said, the remade Final Fantasy games have changed some key events from the original series. Aerith’s death is suspected by fans to be one of these changes. After all, the game is filled with slashing and stabbing, which may signify that the summary isn’t referring to Aerith at all.

The rest of the summary goes as follows: "Some female characters are designed with revealing outfits (e.g., deep cleavage); suggestive dialogue sometimes accompanies camera panning/close-ups of characters’ bodies/outfits (e.g., 'Just admit it. You’re obviously captivated by my bodacious beach bod.'). The game contains some alcohol content: as Cloud, players can drink a version of moonshine while at a bar; cutscenes sometimes feature drunk characters slurring their speech. A handful of scenes depict characters smoking cigars or out of hookahs. The words 'sh*t,' 'a*shole,' and 'pr*ck' appear in the game." Make of that what you will.
