Relive FFXIV nostalgia with the announcement of FFXIV Mobile! Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of FFXIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn, announced the development of this game on November 20 in its newly created social media platforms like YouTube and Twitter (X).

In the roughly 4-minute video announcement, Yoshida revealed exciting details about this upcoming mobile game, which is being developed by Lightspeed Studios. Lifestyle content such as fishing and chocobo racing will be included in the game, while the visual elements are "painstakingly crafted and optimized to bring the detail of the original game to life," as shared on its official website. This includes weather and day-night systems, offering "over 6,000 different weather patterns across various landscapes."

The game will also feature nine jobs at launch, providing players with unique skills and abilities to conquer enemies. The Armoury system allows players to switch jobs freely by simply equipping a specific tool or weapon. Yoshida also stated, "Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented, and we look forward to growing alongside the passionate FFXIV community."

That being said, it remains unclear if any new content or features will be introduced in this mobile version.Despite the technical limitations of Android and Apple iOS devices, Yoshida assured fans that the developer is "working with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication to faithfully recreate the story, duties, battle content, and other aspects of the original game."

The release date has yet to be announced, but a demo will soon be available "through multiple play tests in China, followed by a global launch." Players can follow future updates via the game’s social media platforms and even pre-register right now by visiting its official website.

The announcement of FFXIV Mobile is a testament to FFXIV’s enduring popularity. Initially released 11 years ago, FFXIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn continues to be one of the most enduring MMORPGs today. Roughly 27,000 fans were playing the game on Steam, not including player counts from other platforms. The game is currently available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Mac, and Steam.

FFXIV has also garnered over 200 awards throughout its years of live service. The game won BAFTA’s Evolving Game, Famitsu/Dengeki’s Best Online Game, and DICE Awards’ Online Game of the Year in 2023 alone. Despite being released over a decade ago, the number of players and awards highlights FFXIV’s dedication to its fanbase.
