Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Announced For iOS and Android
3v3 Team Boss Battle Arena
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy (DDFF) is a free-to-play 3v3 team boss battle arena for iOS and Android devices. Developer Square Enix initially teased the game on their official Twitter (X) on October 12, then launched DDFF’s official website and social media pages on October 14.
They also released an announcement trailer that showcased some of the game’s narrative and gameplay features. Its description on its website reads, "In this three-versus-three team boss battle arena, two teams and roaming monsters clash as each side races to defeat the boss faster than the enemy team."

Unlike previous titles from the series that stayed true to the fantastical setting of Final Fantasy, DDFF will be set in modern Tokyo, as a giant crystal suddenly appears in the middle of the city. Warriors from across the FF series gather to protect the world against strange monsters that spawn from a "menacing energy polluting the crystal." These characters are then dubbed "Ghosts" by the public because they quickly disappear after each battle, trying to conceal their identities.
DDFF will continue to implement Dissidia’s gameplay mechanics by accumulating Bravery, then unleashing it at the right moment to defeat enemies. Players acquire numerous abilities that greatly aid them in battle, as illustrated by popular artists such as Yoshitaka Amano, Raita Kazama, and Toshiyuki Itahana, among others.
Characters and Customization

Each character will be categorized into four roles: Ranged - for long-range specialists, Melee - those who want to keep the fight up close, Support - characters that possess tools to help their allies perform better, and Agile - high-mobility characters that can dash across the field.
So far, 10 characters from across the FF series have been revealed for launch, which are the following:
● Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy I) - Support
● Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV) - Melee
● Krile Mayer Baldesion (Final Fantasy V) - Support
● Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) - Ranged
● Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII) - Melee
● Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII) - Ranged
● Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX) - Agile
● Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) - Agile
● Gaia (Final Fantasy XIV) - Melee
● Prompto (Final Fantasy XV) - Ranged

Aside from their original outfits, FF characters will have a special costume adapted to the modern world. Players will also encounter and acquire Memorias, which are memorable scenes from different FF series that can be used to boost character stats
Additionally, classic music tracks from the FF series and their arranged versions are obtainable in-game and can be used for various modes. Players can also chat with other players and use different tags to share their interests with the community.
Special Message From Tetsuya Nomura and Closed Beta Details
In celebration of the game’s announcement, DDFF Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura shared a special message on October 14 through the game’s official Twitter (X) page. He went back to the history of the series, starting with the original Dissidia in 2008, to their fifth title with Dissidia NT.
While their first mobile title for Dissidia, Opera Omnia, was active until 2024, Nomura said that he feels that Dissidia has been a constantly ongoing series. He stated, "DISSIDIA, the first of many crossover titles in the FINAL FANTASY series, was born from the ambitious spirit of our young staff members who wanted to challenge themselves."
With the sixth installment, DDFF, set in an unconventional world where FF meets modern Tokyo, Nomura emphasized that the team remains dedicated to challenging themselves to produce another aspirational title.
He also urged fans to try out the game’s upcoming Closed Beta test, which is now available for registration until October 28, 2025. This test will run from November 7 until November 14 for Android devices, exclusively in the United States, Canada, and Japan.
It will be open to 20,000 players, who will be selected at random if the registrations exceed that limit. Applications for the closed beta are available on DDFF’s official website.
There is currently a campaign raffle to celebrate the game’s closed beta registration, where fans can win an exclusive DDFF-themed Amazon Gift Card. To participate, fans need to follow DDFF’s official Twitter (X) account and like and repost the event post. Entries for the event are accepted until October 22, 2025.

Fans are excited about the return of the Dissidia series, but are wary of the game being a mobile title. Most of the concern stems from Square Enix having multiple discontinued mobile projects through the years, such as Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, and Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, to name a few.
These titles have ceased operations due to an extreme decline in player engagement despite having successful releases. Regardless, long-time fans of the series are glad that Dissida continues to thrive, and hope that the game will be successful in the long run.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is set to be released in 2026 on mobile devices (iOS and Android).
