Developed by parent company Irdeto, Denuvo's TraceMark for Gaming anti-piracy feature was revealed during the GDC event held this week. The tool allows game developers to embed a unique identifier, or watermark, into game footage that can help them track down leakers.

The feature is designed to operate invisibly in a game that uses the tool. It "uniquely addresses the challenge of content leakage, especially during the sensitive pre-release phase of game development," read Irdeto's statement. Moreover, TraceMark enables precise tracing and authentication of users participating in playtests and closed beta tests, which can help developers identify and address leaks. As such, it can also provide control over the distribution of pre-release content.

TraceMark also ensures that if any content is leaked before a game's review embargo period, it can be traced back to the source by marking review copies and press screeners with either visible or invisible watermarks. "With the launch of TraceMark for Gaming, we are setting a new standard in anti-piracy for the gaming industry," stated the company.
