Borderlands 4 TGS Special Stage: Break Free! Quit Earth! at Tokyo Game Show 2025 | Everything Announced

2K/Take-Two Interactive Japan hosted a Borderlands 4 stage event, celebrating its release and announcing a new character. Read on to learn more about the event and what was announced!

Everything Announced at the Borderlands 4 TGS Special Stage: Break Free! Quit Earth! at Tokyo Game Show 2025

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford Takes The Stage

Image

The Borderlands 4 Special Stage event was held as a celebration for the Borderlands 4 blockbuster release, which sold over 2.5 million copies within the first two weeks. Opening the segment was Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who appeared as a special guest and expressed some of his thoughts on the game’s stellar launch. He thanked fans for all their support, sharing that his love and experience for video games began with Japanese video games, and that it is his honor to be able to make games that would entertain Japanese audiences.

He said that Borderlands 4 opened to good reception, and it is "The best Borderlands game we’ve ever made." Pitchford also added that it is the "perfect time for new players to join us."

Gearbox introduced four Vault Hunters before the launch of the game, and now that the game is released, the team is hard at work to add more content—including new Vault Hunters, one of which was revealed on stage during the event.

Newest DLC Vault Hunter, C4SH

Image

The newest Vault Hunter, coming Q1 2026, is C4SH. As a former dealer bot at a casino, he saw how people’s lives were turned right sight up or upside down in the casino. Because of this exposure, he gained sentience and an intelligence of his own. With that, C4SH decided to break out of his shell and make his own life.

Gameplay with C4SH is high-risk, high-reward. One interesting tidbit about C4SH is that his playing card animations are taken directly from CEO Pitchford himself, who is well-versed in magic tricks. On stage, he showed a video of some of his playing card tricks, the same tricks that C4SH will be showing in his debut.

C4SH will come in Q1 2026 as a DLC character alongside a new storyline, including the game’s first big story DLC, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. He will be free content for Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition owners and Vault Hunter Pack owners.

Gameplay Challenge with Special Guests

Afterwards, the Borderlands 4 gameplay portion began and they introduced the next set of special guests: actor and gamer Kanata Hongo, Vex’s Japanese voice actress Honoka Kuroki (who also did her makeup as a nod to her character), comedian and YouTuber Crystal Noda, and streamer Sudetaki.

During the practice stage, everyone was playing well, taking down enemies together with ease and cruising on vehicles to get used to the controls. After the practice segment, they took on the boss known as Callis, the Ripper Queen. They had 10 minutes to defeat her, which they managed to finish well under the given time. They even joked that they needed a stronger enemy because it was too easy.

Borderlands Exercise With Chiitan, the Psycho Bandit, and Mad Moxxi

Image

After defeating the boss, the segment appeared to be concluding already but everyone was surprised by the sudden appearance of Chiitan and the Psycho Bandit and Mad Moxxi cosplayers on stage, who then performed a short "Borderlands Exercise" dance. Pitchford even joined them on stage halfway through, making the atmosphere lighter and more entertaining.

With that special performance done, they closed off the special stage with a few more comments from the special guests, all who expressed their thanks for the enjoyable time and for the opportunity to try the game in front of fans.
