ARC Raiders’ Headwinds Adds New Subtle Features
Matchmaking System, Map Changes, and More in January
Arc Raiders’ Embark Studios has launched the Headwinds content update. Released today, January 27, the update adds features aimed at experienced players alongside a new environmental condition for one of the game’s maps.
One of the update's anticipated additions is a "Solo vs. Squads" matchmaking option unlocked at level 40. As the name suggests, this feature permits solo Raiders to enter squad-based lobbies. Those who choose to brave these disadvantaged matches receive significantly increased XP.
Headwinds also introduces "Bird City," a new map condition within the Buried City zone. Rooftops and chimneys now attract flocks of birds that signal concentrated loot areas, naturally drawing players into tighter spaces where the chances of an ambush may increase.
Another highlight in the content update is the "Trophy Display: Project," which encourages long-term progression via PvE by tasking players to hunt certain ARC enemies for earning trophies and prizes. Completing these goals will unlock more rewards that the developers deemed to be "valuable items."
Alongside these new features, the update includes the "Sandwalker Set" cosmetic, extra quests, and various quality-of-life improvements, changes that were promised from their roadmap progress for 2026.
Raiders Still Want a Larger Update
Player reactions following the update’s announcement have been mixed but engaged. Fans appreciated the added features and new changes coming in January but felt a bit of disappointment as the minor content additions became the main focus of the update. Discussions on Reddit mention the absence of new weapon types, enemies, or large-scale content, with hopes that future updates will deliver more substantial changes.
But based on the ARC Raiders’ roadmap for 2026, each month will have its fair share of updates and surprises. One major addition players can look forward to in the near future is a new map in April for the Riven Tides content, potentially indicating a seafaring environment or water-based ARC enemies to overcome.
