Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon discussed in an interview during Gamescom how Mortal Kombat 1's take on Omni-Man and Homelander will differentiate the two and how NetherRealm planned to make two distinct characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
In a Gamescom interview with IGN, Ed Boon addressed fans’ concerns about Homelander and Omni-Man possibly possessing the same combat styles. Boon shared how MK1 devs will take a different approach by splitting up the heroes’ abilities in a way that will make it feel like players are controlling two very different heroes.
According to Boon, they were given the creative freedom to implement various ideas for the characters, but they intend to steer clear of situations where characters like Homelander and Omni-Man will have the same Superman-esque abilities. “Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that.”
With Homelander and Omni-Man, Boon further shared how they’ve taken inspiration from the things they’ve seen the heroes have done in the shows and turned them into their Fatalities. “They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'”
