BlazBlue Entropy Effect Ends The Franchise's Content Drought
While Not A Fighting Game, It Does Look Promising
Initially announced for Android and iOS in China, BlazBlue Entropy Effect now has a Steam Store page for a Western release, complete with English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese language support. Although there's yet to be an official release date as of writing this article, a tweet from the game's official Twitter account stated that the game will release within 2023.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect is a 2D rogue-lite sidescroller where players can play as one of the characters from the popular BlazBlue franchise. Confirmed characters from the trailers include Ragna, Jin, Noel, Taokaka, and Mai. The lines suggest that the game will incorporate the repeated deaths players experience as a significant part of the plot.
Although the game's connection with the main lineup of fighters has yet to be officialized, some players look at the game with slight skepticism due to various issues. For one, they wonder what a BlazBlue game, even if it's not a fighter, would be like now that its creator, Toshimichi Mori, has left Arc System Works. There are also fears that 91Act, the Chinese developers behind the game, would implement some kind of gacha into the game. However, since there was no gacha system during the closed beta, it shouldn't be a problem as long as the game remains similar to what it was like then.
Regardless, most fans are looking forward to trying it due to a nearly seven-year drought of mainline content, with BlazBlue: Central Fiction being released for the consoles back in 2016.
Aside from the doubts surrounding the game, the gameplay does look good. The special effects look fantastic, and the animations look very smooth. Fans of the rogue-lite genre may finally experience the BlazBlue franchise, even if it's not in the form it became famous for. As for a global release of its mobile version, announcements regarding the matter have yet to be made.
