Dev Builds for the upcoming survival horror game by GSC Game World, STALKER 2, were leaked. Read on to learn more about the scope and possible causes of the incident.
STALKER 2 Dev Builds Were Leaked
The Files Weigh In At 193GB
In what may have been an expected turn of events, dev builds for the upcoming survival horror game STALKER 2 were "leaked" online, with the files boasting a staggering 193GBs. However, due to the encryption present, they are basically unplayable.
According to r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, this incident is likely an internal mistake GSC Game World's IT Department made. There is no official confirmation of this. As the game has had a similar mishap with having their data leaked, some people believe that the latest incident was orchestrated by the same group of people that caused the previous one. That group made demands to GSC Game World, such as including Russian localization to the game, at least as an add-on later. They cited a deadline of March 15, 2023, that came and went with nothing happening. Regardless, there is a fear that this massive leak resulted from that. But with seeders, logs, and network data being available, it does appear that this was an internal mistake. The files may have been for testers to play around with and shared privately but were accidentally set to public instead.
Even though the files are encrypted, there are still worries about what would happen since the files are already out.
Officially, STALKER 2 is set to release sometime this 2023, with its Steam Store page placing it in December. It had already been delayed from its initial April 2022 release date due to the situation with Ukraine's war with Russia.
