With Super Mario Bros. Movie's success, Nintendo's Representative, Shigeru Miyamoto is optimistic about more Nintendo game adaptation. Learn more about Miyamoto's interview with Nikkei Asia.
Nintendo Optimistic For More Nintendo Film Adaptations

Super Mario Bros. Movie has become a box office hit, and Nintendo Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto is optimistic about making more Nintendo film adaptations. For the fans, that means seeing their favorite Nintendo characters on the big screen.
Nintendo film adaptations were not always successful. The original Super Mario Bros. Movie from 1993 was dubbed the worst video game adaptation movie of all time. However, Nintendo finally struck gold with the Super Mario Bros. Movie, which turned out to be one of the highest-grossing animation films of the year.
Nintendo To Produce More Video Content

Shigeru Miyamoto told Nikkei Asia that Nintendo will produce more video content. Since Nintendo heavily depends on video games, the company considers itself a talent agent
for its characters. For good reasons, the company intends to capitalize on its diverse IP for growth.
Future partnerships with animation studio Illumination are a real possibility. In that case, a Nintendo cinematic universe may actually happen. It would be interesting to connect the cute Nintendo games with the more realistic ones and converge with Super Smash Bros at the end.
While there is nothing official or confirmed, there will likely be a sequel to Super Mario Bros. Movie.
